Some Thoughts on Virtual Classical Christian Education
Some Thoughts on Virtual Classical Christian Education

As we navigate through this new online and virtual learning environment, I want to offer some practical tips for families through this time.
Set a schedule
I imagine there are families with only 1-2 internet devices and more people needing those devices with their own telework responsibilities and now students at home doing online learning.
Here is a suggested schedule – of course, feel free to adapt and adjust. I know each family is different, so adjust as you need!
Before 9:00 a.m. |
Wake up |
Breakfast, make your bed, get dressed, do the dishes, start some laundry |
9:00 a.m. |
Get outside |
Go for a walk and get some fresh air. |
10:00-11:00 |
Academic Time |
Check in to your classes and start working. |
11:00-12:00 |
Academic/Creative Time |
Do some arts and crafts and finish the first half of your assignments for the day |
12:00-1:00 |
Lunch and Recess |
Eat a healthy, balanced lunch and then go back outside for your home version of recess. |
1:00-200 |
Rest time/Chores |
Sorry – rest time is only for JK and K students! The rest can help out around the house with some chores – laundry, vacuuming, taking out the garbage, etc. |
2:00-3:00 |
Academics |
Finish up your last assignments and projects and plan for tomorrow. |
3:00-3:30 |
Prayer/Devotional |
Take some time and do a devotional together. |
3:30-5:30 |
Recess |
Go enjoy nature and see God’s creation first hand. |
5:30 |
Wash your hands/chores |
Set the table for your parents |
6:00 |
Dinner |
Eat as a family and talk about your day. |
Limit screen time.
I know, it sounds odd to read that when we are doing school online, but once classes are done, put down the phones, power down the tablets and computers and spend some time together. God has a great creation out there for us to experience and it’s better without the screen!
Pray and be together as a family.
How many times have you heard the phrase – “I wish I had more time with my family?” I have great news for you – now you do! With telework and no school, what an amazing opportunity that families have to grow closer, pray together, and connect as a family. Don’t loose this opportunity.
Enjoy your virtual school day!
