Christmas and Truth

Christmas and Truth

As I am writing this, I am looking out my office window to a dreary and rainy day in December. Here in Michigan, this is always the time for waiting to see if we will have a white Christmas or not.

Of course, that hasn't stopped a lot of the pre-Christmas festivities. It seems radio stations start playing carols on November 1 and stores have decorations and sales well before Halloween nowadays.

One of my memories, though, about Christmas is watching some of the classic movies and specials. One that always strikes me is A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Do you remember when poor Charlie Brown getting frustrated and asking if anyone knows the true meaning of Christmas? It was then that everyone's blanket-carrying friend, Linus, comes up and tells Charlie Brown what he – and we - all truly need to hear as he recites from the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 2.

The true meaning of Christmas is about Jesus choosing to willingly come down to earth and fulfill what one scholar counts as 574 separate prophecies in the Old Testament about the Messiah.

That's what it's all about – that Jesus fulfilled those prophecies; chose to come down to earth and, most importantly, knew that in coming down, He would follow His Father's Will and take the journey to Golgotha and the Cross.

Praise Him this Christmas season. Praise the One Who sent Jesus! Praise Him about whom it is recorded, "For God so loved the world He sent His One and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
